Prof. Dr. Maekawa is a theoretical physicist renowned for his work on strongly correlated electron systems, magnetic nanostructures, and spintronics. He received his Doctor of Science from Tohoku University in 1975 and has since held leading roles at Tohoku University, the Japan Atomic Energy Agency, and RIKEN. Currently, he is Visiting Senior Fellow at RIKEN and Visiting Chair Professor at the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Sciences. His contributions have been recognized worldwide with honors including the Humboldt Award, the IUPAP Magnetism Award and Néel Medal, and the Honda Memorial Award. He is a foundational figure and an indispensable contributor to the spin mechanics research community.
